Apply Now For Dr. Pepper/Keep America Beautiful Park Recycling Bin Grants

Monday February 13th, 2017

Townships that own or manage local or regional parks may apply for the 2017 Dr. Pepper Snapple/Keep America Beautiful Park Recycling Bin Grants. The deadline for applications is February 24.

Nonprofit organizations and Keep America Beautiful (KAB) affiliates are also eligible to apply on behalf of government agencies. For-profit businesses are not eligible to receive grants.

“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful encourages our local and state government agencies to apply for a recycling bin grant with the goal of making it more convenient and accessible for the residents of Pennsylvania to recycle at our parks, beaches, athletic fields, and walking trails,” says Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, the state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.  “We thank Dr. Pepper and Keep America Beautiful for the opportunity to expand the availability of recycling in our shared community spaces.”

Research has shown that lack of convenient access to recycling bins is one of the main barriers preventing people from recycling.

Providing recycling access in shared community spaces promotes and reinforces recycling behavior at the individual level.

Several styles of recycling bins are available for the collection of cans and bottles in park settings, such as neighborhood and urban parks, athletic fields, nature trails, and public beaches.

In addition to offering recycling bins, the grant program will also make additional funds available to affiliates or other grant recipients who commit to conducting a set of litter indexes in conjunction with the grant.

The purpose of the indexes will be to document the effect of the recycling bins to reduce litter in the immediate areas where they are placed.

Now in its fifth year, the grant program from Dr. Pepper Snapple/Keep America Beautiful has awarded more than 3,400 recycling bins to local governments and community organizations across 38 states.

Applicants will be notified in late March whether a grant has been awarded.
