A San Francisco traveler returning from South Africa is the first U.S. case of the newest COVID-19 variant found in California. It is considered the latest “variant of concern,” and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are actively monitoring Omicron.
