Shapiro to Declare Disaster to Address I-95 Collapse in Philadelphia 

Gov. Josh Shapiro will sign a disaster declaration today to address the I-95 collapse in Philadelphia yesterday due to a tanker fire and allow access to federal funds. The northbound lanes collapsed while the southbound lanes are heavily damaged and not structurally sound for any traffic. The roadway, which carries more than 130,000 cars per day, is expected to remain closed for months, even as officials expedite the reconstruction of this critical artery. 

“Interstate 95 is a critical artery that supports our economy and plays an important role in Pennsylvanians’ day to day lives. My administration is “all hands-on deck” to repair this safely and as efficiently as possible,” said Shapiro. “We will rebuild and recover – and in the meantime, we will make sure people can get to where they need to go safely.”
