Commonwealth Awards Grants for Water Infrastructure, Watersheds
Gov. Josh Shapiro announced the investment of $175.7 million for 25 drinking water and wastewater projects across 16 counties through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority. The projects include replacing lead pipes, rehabilitating aging water pumps, and reducing costs resulting from water loss.
Several awards will go to townships or municipal authorities serving townships, including a project in Buffalo Township, Butler County, to provide new drinking water service to a residential area with contaminated wells. The Cresson Township Municipal Authority in Cambria County will receive an award to extend sewer service to 45 residential customers in Munster Township, an area with failing on-lot systems. The state Department of Environmental Protection also announced the award of $3.8 million in grants to 15 projects across Pennsylvania that will help communities restore impaired watersheds.
