IRS Requiring Employers with 10 or More W-2 Forms to File Electronically
The Internal Revenue Service amended its regulations to lower the threshold to 10 for which employers must file certain returns electronically, including W-2 forms. This change is effective for returns required to be filed beginning in 2024. The new rules apply to tax year 2023 W-2s because they are required to be filed by January 31, 2024.
If your township is now required to file W-2 forms electronically with the IRS, this can be done through payroll software, such as QuickBooks, with a third-party, such as an accounting firm, or directly. Click here to learn more about the filing requirement.
