PENNVEST Grants for Water Infrastructure, Remediation
Gov. Josh Shapiro announced that $194.3 million is being awarded for 28 drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and non-point source projects across 20 counties through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). The projects include replacing lead or other corrosive pipes, rehabilitating aging systems, upgrading service capabilities, extending service to more communities, and reducing environmental contaminants.
French Creek Township in Venango County received a $3.1 million grant and a $1.6 million loan to update its aging wastewater treatment plant and equipment. In addition, the state Department of Environmental Protection recently announced the award of $101 million in 16 environmental restoration projects of abandoned mine lands as part of the Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) and Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) Grant Program. These projects are funded through the
Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and focus on reclaiming AML, decreasing AMD, or treating water through an AMD treatment facility. The awards are going to organizations that will be restoring creeks and rivers in townships across the state. Click here for information about these projects.
The Susquehanna River Basin Commission received one of the AML grants for $68 million, which will be used to construct a facility in Tioga County to treat and restore 20 miles of stream, including the Tioga River, Morris Run, Coal Creek, and Fall Brook. Click here to learn more about this project.
