How Do Pennsylvania’s Taxes Compare to Other States?
Ever wonder how Pennsylvania’s state and local taxes compare to other states? The Independent Fiscal Office has released State and Local Tax Revenues, A 50 State Comparison, which compares states by their per capita tax burden. Comparing the total local and state per capita tax burden, Pennsylvania ranked 19th, below New York (No. 1), New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware.
The combined state personal income tax and local earned income tax led to Pennsylvania having the 18th highest income tax burden. Pennsylvania ranked 25th for its total per capita property tax burden. New Jersey, New York, and Maryland had a higher tax burden in both comparisons. Despite having its high gasoline tax rate, Pennsylvania ranked 12th for total motor vehicle taxes per capita. Click here to read the report.
