Federal REAL ID Deadline is May 7, 2025
Beginning May 7, 2025, travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, photo ID card, or other form of federally acceptable identification (such as valid passport or military ID) to board a domestic commercial flight or enter certain federal facilities. REAL ID is a coordinated effort by the federal government to improve the reliability and accuracy of driver’s licenses and identification cards.
The state Department of Transportation is encouraging Pennsylvanians who will need a REAL ID to begin the process now, particularly if you plan on flying next year. Pennsylvanians can obtain a REAL ID-compliant product through PennDOT and will need to provide proof of identity (such as an original or certified copy of a birth certificate), Social Security card, two proofs of current, physical PA address, and proof of all legal name changes.
