DEP Declares Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Susquehanna Valley, Pittsburgh Areas 

The state Department of Environmental Protection declares today a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for the Susquehanna Valley Area, which includes the counties of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York, and the Pittsburgh Area, which includes the counties of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland. Temperatures in the 90s will likely contribute to ozone concentrations. Check airnow.gov for current air conditions.  

On Code Orange Days, young children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems are vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities. Residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to voluntarily help reduce ozone air pollution by driving less, combining errands to reduce trips, limiting engine idling, refueling cars and trucks after dusk, and setting air conditioning to a higher temperature and turning off lights not in use. Click here for the press release.
