Worker Safety First, Not Bureaucracy!
We all agree: Keeping our public servants safe is paramount. However, creating mountains of new regulations, more bureaucracy, and hefty fines won’t make our workplaces safer. In fact, it would burden local governments and non-profits (including volunteer fire companies and emergency medical services providers), hindering their ability to protect workers and possibly fulfill their missions.
Townships are already actively managing risk and implementing safety measures. We train our employees, inspect workplaces, and follow strict regulations — including those from PennDOT and the federal government.
Townships and local governments don’t need a new bureaucratic babysitter — we need partners in safety. PSATS is ready to collaborate with the General Assembly to find better ways to keep our employees safe and reduce costs.
Watch as PSATS Executive Director Dave Sanko discusses this issue in this month’s “Behind the Headlines,” a program from the Susquehanna Valley Center for Public Policy.
