2025 Organizational Meeting Date Resource, Challenges
Today is the legal date that all townships are required to hold the 2025 board of supervisors’ organizational meeting. Each year, the Pennsylvania Township News publishes an organization meeting checklist to help you prepare for this annual meeting. Click here for this helpful checklist.
While the Second Class Township Code clearly states when the organization meeting shall be held, it does not take into account the impact of weather, emergencies, illnesses, etc. Click here to see last week’s Question of the Week, which discusses options if a supervisor cannot attend in person.
If a township is unable to conduct its organization meeting today due to inclement weather, lack of a quorum, etc., it should reschedule and advertise for the first available date (with 24 hours notice), as there are necessary business designations that must occur before other actions are taken. PSATS is not aware of any instances where a township did not hold an organization meeting on the first Monday due to an emergency and faced any legal consequences.
