Inflation Down Slightly for the Month
The Consumer Price Index bumped up in February by .2% after rising .5% in January, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the last 12 months ending February, the all-items index increased 2.8%, after rising 3% for the 12 months ending January.
The index for shelter rose by .3% in February, accounting for nearly half of the monthly all items increase. The shelter index was partially offset by a 4% decrease in airline fares and a 1% decline for gasoline. The food index rose .2% in February, after rising .4%.in January. Eggs increased 10.4% in February, while dairy and related products declined 1%. Used cars and trucks increased .9%, while new vehicles dropped .1%. Click here for the press release.
