Pa. COVID-19 Cases, Hospitalizations, Deaths Continue to Decline

COVID case counts decreased for the seventh week in a row, with 4,317 new cases of COVID-19 reported last week, 32% less than the prior week. Only six counties had more cases. The statewide COVID-19 total case count now stands at 1,205,692. Pennsylvania’s new case rates are now comparable to the lows reached in August 2020, and the state has dropped to the 22nd highest growth in cases per 100,000. Wyoming, Colorado, and Washington now make up the top three. 

For the seventh week in a row, the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in Pennsylvania has decreased from 1,028 to 767, a 25% decrease. 180 of these patients are in an ICU, down from 257 the prior week. The number of COVID-19 patients on a ventilator statewide decreased from 139 to 101.  

Deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Pennsylvania decreased this week for the second week in a row. 151 deaths were reported this week, 13% less than in the previous week. Total deaths in Pennsylvania have reached 27,354.  

Pennsylvania’s statewide percent-positivity rate has decreased for the seventh week in a row, from 3.8% to 2.9% and the third week in a row below 5%. 59 counties now have rates less than 5% (up from 39 last week), 11 counties have rates of 5% to less than 10% (down from 26 last week), and one county had rates of 10% to less than 20% (down from two last week).
