Pa. COVID-19 Cases, Hospitalizations, Deaths Increase
51,037 new cases of COVID-19 were reported last week, a 77% increase over the prior week and for the second week in a row. The statewide COVID-19 total case count now stands at 1,644,848. The commonwealth remains at 20th in cases per 100,000 nationally, with Minnesota, New Mexico, and North Dakota now in the top three.
After decreasing for three weeks, the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in Pennsylvania increased this week from 2,475 to 2,626. 606 patients are in the ICU, an increase compared to the previous week’s 573. Total deaths in Pennsylvania have reached 32,401, with 503 new deaths reported this week, an increase compared to the previous week.
Pennsylvania’s statewide percent-positivity rate increased for the second week in a row from 9.3% to 10.3%. Two counties have a rate less than 5% (compared to one last week), 11 counties have rates of 5% to less than 10% (compared to 20 last week), 44 counties have rates of 10% to less than 20% (compared to 38 last week); nine counties have a rate of at least 20% but less than 30% (compared to eight last week); and one county has a rate higher than 30% (compared to none last week).
