Administration Launches New Driver Work Zone Safety Program
Yesterday, the state Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission launched a new, statewide training program to improve new driver safety and protect road workers.
The New Driver Work Zone Safety Program is a training project that uses engaging videos, infographics, knowledge checks, and powerful testimonials to teach new drivers work zone laws, signage, and key facts, in addition to offering real-life scenarios to enhance understanding. The free, 35-minute virtual course is currently available by clicking here. Hands-on training opportunities will be provided to supplement the course.
While the program is free and encouraged for all Pennsylvania residents, it is especially beneficial for new drivers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drivers aged 16-19 are nearly three times more likely to die in a crash than drivers aged 20 and up per mile driven. Correction: The article about DEP’s Permit Backlog in yesterday’s edition contained an incorrect date. The article should have said that by November 15, 2024 the number of permit applications that required action had dropped by 73%. We apologize for the error.
