April 17-21 is National Work Zone Awareness Week
April 17-21 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. This annual campaign is held at the start of the construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones and to encourage drivers to use extra caution in work zones. The Federal Highway Administration coordinates and sponsors the event, which kicks off today in Missouri. This year’s theme is “You play a role in work zone safety. Work with us.”
Pennsylvania is recognizing National Work Zone Awareness Week and is urging motorists to slow down and pay attention. According to preliminary state Department of Transportation data, in 2022 there were 1,293 work zone crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities.
