Borough of Mahanoy City Exits Distressed Status  

After seven years, the Borough of Mahanoy City in Schuylkill County is no longer considered distressed under Act 47. The state Department of Community and Economic Development announced yesterday that it has terminated Mahanoy City’s distressed status due to improvements in its management practices and fiscal situation, including elimination of an $800,000 deficit. Click here to read more.  There are 8 remaining distressed cities and 3 boroughs in PA, down from a high of nearly 3 dozen. There are no distressed townships.
