Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants
USDA Rural Development has Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants available to help communities prepare for, or recover from, an emergency that threatens the availability of safe, reliable drinking water. Events that qualify as an emergency include but are not limited to droughts, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and chemical spills.
Townships with populations of 10,000 or less are eligible to apply for funds for the following purposes:
- Water transmission line grants up to $150,000 to construct waterline extensions, repair breaks or leaks in existing water distribution lines, and address related maintenance necessary to replenish the water supply.
- Water source grants up to $1 million for the construction of new wells, reservoirs, transmission lines, treatment plants, and/or other sources of water (water source up to and including the treatment plant).
Applications are accepted year-round. Interested townships are encouraged to contact the Pennsylvania state program specialist prior to filling out any forms or applications for this opportunity.
