Inflation Down Slightly Two Months In a Row
The Consumer Price Index decreased in March by .1% after rising by .2% in February, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the last 12 months ending March, the all-items index increased 2.4% after rising 2.8% for the 12 months ending January.
The index for energy fell 2.4% in March, as a 6.3% decline in the index for gasoline increases more than offset increases in the indexes for electricity and natural gas. The food index rose .4% in March, after increasing by .2% in February. Eggs were up 5.9% over the month and 60.4% over the year. The shelter index increased .2% over the month and 4% over the last year, the smallest 12-month increase since November 2021.
The news again seemed to have little impact on the stock market, which continues to focus on the impact of tariffs and trade war. Click here for the press release.
