New Attempt at Statewide Zoning

n addition to the legislative attempts to strip local government of land use decision making in the name of affordable housing, as well as the recently shared Biden and Shapiro Executive Orders, there is now a federal grant opportunity that is geared to providing $100 million to state, county and local governments to craft a plan that could eliminate local decision making. 

The HUD-funded “Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing” (PRO Housing) supports communities who are actively taking steps to remove barriers to affordable housing, such as: 

barriers caused by outdated zoning, land use policies, or regulations; among others. The application deadline is October 15, 2024. Call your county commissioners today and see if your county is making application for this money to strip away local zoning. The application requires a public hearing before it is submitted, so make you voices heard if you have an opinion.
