New Federal Overtime Rule Effective Today
Beginning today, federal regulations require overtime to be paid to all workers earning less than $844 per week or $43,888 annually if these employees work more than 40 hours per week, regardless of job duties. Previously, this threshold was $684 per week or $35,568 per year.
As a reminder, federal law requires that hours be tracked for employees who are under the threshold to ensure that they are properly paid. Keep in mind as budget season approaches that the overtime threshold will increase to $58,656 per year or $1,128 per week on January 1, 2025.
