PennDOT Announces ARLE Grant Awards for Traffic Safety
Yesterday, the state Department of Transportation announced $20.4 million in Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding to 25 municipalities statewide to fund 31 safety projects. The ARLE funding comes from fines from red light violations at 38 intersections in Philadelphia and is used for grants to improve traffic safety. Click here to learn more about the ARLE program.
While Philadelphia will receive more than half of this grant round, 13 townships will receive $4.9 million, nearly a quarter of the funds. North Strabane Township, Washington County will receive $116,000 for installation of speed management devices along McDowell Lane and Demar Blvd. Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County will receive $485,600 for full traffic signal modernization and minor widening at the intersection of Route 663 and Schoolhouse Road/Montgomery Ave. Bedford Township, Bedford County will receive $556,834 to modernize traffic signals at eight intersections, replace six flashing approach lights, install traffic signs on a rural road with curves, and install camera surveillance for the Belden Road Bridge.
