Pennsylvania Preserves Farms in Townships Across the Commonwealth
Pennsylvania is investing nearly $12 million to purchase development rights for 2,187 acres on 29 farms in 28 townships in 17 counties, protecting them from future development. The program ensures that Pennsylvania farmers will have access to prime quality land in the future. The 600-acre Holl Farm, a crop farm in Lower Mifflin and Upper Frankford Townships, Cumberland County, is the largest preserved to date in Cumberland County and the largest in this announcement.
Since the creation of Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program in 1988, Pennsylvania has protected 652,085 acres on 6,530 farms in 58 counties with an investment of nearly $1.76 billion. This program is a partnership with local governments and nonprofits. Click here to see the press release, which includes a list of the farms preserved and the township in which they are located.
