PFAS Monitoring Reminder for Public Water Systems

Earlier this month, a reminder was sent to all Community Water Systems and Non-Transient Non-Community Water Systems with valid email addresses on file from the PA DEP Bureau of Safe Drinking Water. As a reminder, townships which own water systems must monitor for PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) in compliance with federal requirements under the U.S. EPA’s National Primary Drinking Water Regulation and in compliance with the requirements of Pennsylvania’s PFAS MCL Rule. 

Public water systems have three years to complete initial monitoring, followed by ongoing compliance monitoring. Water systems must also provide the public with information on the levels of these PFAS in their drinking water beginning in 2027.
