Protect Your Township from Cyberattacks with Tools and Resources
As part of National Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) encourage townships to invest in readiness and prepare to quickly withstand or recover from potential disruptions.
To help address the rising threat of cyberattacks targeting critical utility infrastructure, the PUC has provided several key actions to strengthen cybersecurity defenses:
- Use a Password Manager: Secure your accounts by creating long, random, and unique passwords, and simplify management with password managers.
- Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Adding an extra layer of protection with MFA makes it significantly harder for cybercriminals to access your accounts.
- Recognize and Report Phishing: Stay vigilant against unsolicited emails or messages asking for sensitive information and report phishing attempts.
- Install Software Updates: Regularly update your software and devices to ensure you have the latest security features and patches.
Additionally, CISA has compiled a list of free tools, resources, and services to help township officials and employees understand cybersecurity and advance their security capabilities. Visit CISA’s website for more information and alerts tailored to local government.
