PUC to Hold Hearings on Impact of AI Data Centers on Electric Supply
On April 24, the Public Utility Commission will hold a hearing to seek information from industry leaders and interested parties on the growing impact of large-scale electric consumers, including data centers and other high-energy users, on the state’s electric grid. The PUC wants to learn how to design a large load customer model tariff for these users, which are creating an enormous increase in electric demand that is expected to cause electric prices to jump.
Companies creating large electric loads due to data centers, including Google and Amazon, will testify at the hearing, as well as electric distribution companies, including FirstEnergy and PPL. To learn more about the hearing, which will be livestreamed, click here.
