Reminder: Townships Encouraged to Comment on Mandatory Overtime Regulation by 11/7
The U.S. Department of Labor has issued a notice of proposed rulemaking that would require overtime to be paid to all workers earning less than $1,059 per week or about $55,000 annually. Currently, employees earning less than $684 per week or $35,568 per year must be paid overtime if they work more than 40 hours per week, regardless of job duties. In addition, the proposed ruling would automatically increase this salary threshold every three years to reflect current earnings data.
PSATS is concerned that this substantial change will be an unfunded mandate on townships and submitted comments detailing these concerns. However, to increase the volume, PSATS is encouraging township officials to also submit comments and concerns about the proposed rulemaking and how it would affect your township by November 7. Please feel free to use language as appropriate from the PSATS letter. It is critical to include how this proposed rule would impact your township, based on current pay and positions, and what your township would need to do to pay for the increase.
