Shapiro Administration’s DEP Addresses Urban Stormwater Runoff

The Shapiro Administration’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) anticipates increased urban stormwater runoff due to climate change. In response, DEP has released a draft of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit for Stormwater Discharges (PAG-13) from small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) for public comment. The deadline for comments is March 19, and PSATS will be submitting comments.

To review the draft and related documents, visit greenport.pa.gov/elibrary and navigate to “Permit and Authorization Packages,” and then “Clean Water,” and select “Draft PAG-13 NPDES General Permit for Stormwater Discharges from Small MS4s.” This permit aims to provide NPDES coverage for small MS4s discharging stormwater into surface waters.

Submit comments with your name and address through www.ahs.dep.pa.gov/eComment, via email at ecomment@pa.gov, or by mail to the Department of Environmental Protection, Policy Office, Rachel Carson State Office Building, P.O. Box 2063, Harrisburg, PA 17105-2063.
