In a victory for local governance, voters in the 36th Senate District in Lancaster County narrowly elected East Petersburg Mayor James Malone to fill a vacant state senate seat. Malone defeated Republican Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons. The Senate is now a 27-22 Republican majority.  

Voters in the 35th Legislative District in Allegheny County elected Democrat Dan Goughnour to win a special election for a vacant state House seat with 63% of the vote, retaining 102-101 Democrat control in the chamber.
