Townships Receive Millions in Traffic Signal Upgrades

As you know, local governments maintain every single traffic signal in PA, even on state roads. Yesterday, Gov. Josh Shapiro and state Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll announced that 63 municipalities will receive over $30 million to support traffic signal upgrades through the Green Light-Go program. These grants are provided as reimbursements for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals and will be funded through the recently passed appropriation for fiscal year 2024-2025. 

Townships around the state will receive nearly $14 million, or close to half of the funds allotted, to improve traffic signals and enhance traffic flow, many at intersections of township roads with state routes or even intersections of state roads. The largest of these awards goes to Monroe Township, Snyder County, for upgrades to three existing signalized intersections along Routes 11 and 15.
