Treasury to Return Some Unclaimed Property Automatically

State Treasurer Stacy Garrity will send letters to 8,000 Pennsylvanians this week indicating that unclaimed property will be automatically returned to them as part of the new Pennsylvania Money Match Program. Act 81 of 2024 authorized Treasury to return single-owner unclaimed property of up to $500 after an identification and verification process and was modeled after similar programs in other states.

While your township may benefit from this program, don’t wait to find out if your township is owed unclaimed property. The PA Treasury Department receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property each year, including savings or checking accounts, stocks, dividends, checks that have not been cashed, such as payroll, certificates of deposit, unclaimed insurance benefits, insurance premium refunds, and the like.

Don’t miss out! Recently, Garrity was able to return $31,000 to Willistown Township, Chester County, to benefit township residents, while Taylor Township in Lawrence County recently received more than $172,000 in unclaimed property.
